Jika berbicara ketinggian gedung. banyak sekali perdebatan dan kebingungan dari berbagai kalangan dalam menentukan kriteria dan definisinya.
Karena bangunan-bangunan tinggi yang di bangun oleh manusia kebanyakan dari struktur menara broadcast radio atau televisi,yang raata-rata memiliki ketinggian sekitar 600 meter.
Adapun Hal-hal yang diperdebatkan adalah:
- Apakah struktur yang disanggah guy-wire dapat di hitung ketinggiannya?
- Apakah menghitung ketinggian hanya tempat yang dapat ditinggali?
- Apakah antena di atas-atap dapat dihitung?
- Apakah struktur yang berada di bawah air juga dihitung ketinggiannya?
Tetapi di balik perdebatan itu,di sini Khabuka hanya akan menulis daftar tertinggi dari bangunan yang berupa Gedung sesuai dengan judul di atas,dan mungkin itu termasuk dengan segala apa yang ada di atapnya.
Dan berikut Daftar 10 gedung tertinggi di dunia :
1. Burj Khalifa
Lokasi : Dubai, Uni Emirat Arab
Di bangun tahun : 2004
Dibuka tahun : 4 -1-2010
Ketinggian : 828 m
Lantai teratas 6.213 m
Jumlah lantai : 160 lantai
Pada saat pembukaannya Burj Khalifa menjadi Gedung tertinggi dari bangunan apapun yang ada di dunia. Dan juga pada saat pembangunannya Burj Khalifa terus melewati bangunan-bangunan tertinggi lainnya, di antaranya :
Menggeser atau melewati posisi Taipei 101 sebagai Gedung tertinggi di dunia pada 21 Juli 2007. Pada waktu yang sama juga melewati ketinggian CN Tower sebagai struktur bebas (tanpa penyangga)tertinggi di dunia dan pada tanggal 7 April 2008 struktur tertinggi di dunia dari Menara KVLY-TV yang berada di Blanchard, North Dakota, Amerika Serikat berhasil dilewati. Menara Radio Warsawa 645,4 m (2.120 kaki) dibuat pada 1974 (namun runtuh pada saat renovasi pada 1991) berhasil dilewati pada 1 September 2008. Rekor lain dari Menara ini adalah mempunyai lift tercepat dengan kecepatan 60 km/jam atau 16.7 m/s. Dan bangunan dengan paling banyak lantai yaitu160 lantai.
2. Abraj Al-Bait
Tinggi : 601 m
Lokasi : Mekah,Saudi Arabia
Jumlah lantai : 120 lantai
Tahun pembuatan : 2004-2012
Dibuka tahun : 2012
Abraj Al-Bait Tower atau dikenal juga dengan nama Mecca Royal Hotel Clock Tower. Hal menarik dari menara ini adalah letaknya yang berada dekat di selatan pintu masuk Masjidil Haram.
Terdapat tujuh menara dengan satu menara yang dinamakan Hotel Tower memiliki ketinggian di atas 6 menara lainnya(tinggi 601m) yang diperkhususkan untuk apartemen, Hotel Tower dijadikan hotel berbintang tujuh. Bangunan dibawah tujuh menara ini di isi dengan 5 lantai pusat perbelanjaan, ruang konferensi, dan fasilitas-fasilitas yang lain (termasuk ruang beribadah yang sanggup menampung hingga 10.000 orang)Konstruksi Abraj Al Bait ini dimulai pada tahun 2004 yang lalu, dan secara bertahap-tahap ketujuh menara ini diselesaikan dan yang paling terakhir selesai dari tujuh menara ini adalah menara Maqam.(Bisnis perhotelan yang semakin lama menjadi berkembang di kota ini juga tak terlepas dari banyaknya jamaah haji, oleh karena itu Menara Abraj Al Bait ini juga dirancang untuk mampu menampung sampai dengan 100.000 orang).

Dalam banyak aspek, gedung ini adalah salah satu pencakar langit yang paling maju yang pernah dibuat Manusia sampai sekarang. memiliki keunggulan yaitu fiber optik dan hubungan internet satelit yang dapat mencapai kecepatan 1 gigabyte per detik. Dua lift tercepat telah di sediakan oleh Toshiba yang mencapai kecepatan maksimum 1.010 m/min (63km/jam atau 39 mil/jam) berati mampu membawa pengunjung dari lantai dasar ke lantai 89 dalam waktu 39 detik. Sebuah pendulum seberat 800 ton dipasang di lantai 88,menstabilkan menara ini terhadap goyangan yang timbul dari gempa bumi,angin topan maupun gaya geser dari angin.
4. Shanghai World Financial Center
Lokasi : Pudong , Shanghai , Cina
Di bangun tahun : 1997- 2008
Dibuka : 28 Agustus 2009
Tinggi : 494,3 m
Lantai teratas : 474,0 m
Jumlah lantai : 101
Fitur yang paling khas dari desain bangunan ini adalah aperture trapesium di puncak. Desain asli yang ditetapkan aperture yang melingkar, berdiameter 46m, untuk mengurangi tekanan dari tekanan angin, serta berfungsi sebagai subteks untuk desain, karena "mitologi Cina merupakan bumi dengan sebuah persegi dan langit dengan lingkaran ". Namun desain awal ini mulai menghadapi protes dari beberapa orang Cina, termasuk walikota Shanghai, Chen Liangyu, yang menganggap terlalu mirip dengan matahari terbit desain bendera Jepang . Pedersen kemudian mengusulkan bahwa jembatan ditempatkan di bagian bawah aperture untuk membuatnya kurang melingkar. ICC Tower Ini adalah bagian dari Union Square proyek dibangun di atas Kowloon Station. Pembangunan ini dimiliki dan dikembangkan oleh MTR Corporation Limited dan Sun Hung Kai Properties. Saat ini ICC merupakan Gedung tertinggi kelima di dunia dengan tinggi badan, kedua bangunan tertinggi di dunia dengan jumlah lantai, serta menjadi bangunan tertinggi di Hong Kong .
Nama pembangunan formal adalah Union Square Phase 7 dan nama ICC secara resmi diumumkan pada tahun 2005.
